The VTG Content Steering Demo demonstrates end-to-end functionality of the VTG Content Steering server,
which optimizes CDN selection for video streaming based on real-time steering rules provided to the client.
This demo allows you to influence CDN selection by generating synthetic RUM (Real User Monitoring) data
for your specific Country/State/ASN combination. When you adjust the influence controls, synthetic metrics
flow through the prod Doppler RUM pipeline to the prod Doppler Decisioning pipeline,
then propagate to the VTG Content Steering data layer to then get turned into traffic steering rule sets.
This is not a simulation or fake-out. The synthetic data you generate goes into the
Doppler pipeline as if it were real performance data beaconed in from Doppler RUM clients. The demo shows
real production behavior of those RUM measurements turning into actionable decisioning movements that allow the player to shift gears to the appropriate CDN based on their performance data.
The video player utilizes Content Steering (as defined in HLS specs and DASH specs)
to periodically consume a steering manifest that provides a priority-sorted list of CDNs to use.
